EAGLES WEEK 12 RECAP
-Kenny Pete, Contributor
Coming off a history making victory over the Chiefs on Monday Night Football & exercising the demons left on the field in Arizona last February, The Eagles come home to a Kelly Green homecoming at The Linc vs Buffalo in a game right in the thick of a string of games vs playoff condenders. This would be Brandon Graham's 189th game, the most as an Eagle in franchise history , passing legendary kicker David Akers at 188.
The 1st quarter was a defensive battle that the Eagles had won & were able to score 1st off a Jalen Hurts rushing touchdown that was very Brotherly in fashion at the end of the quarter.
Midway through the 2nd , Jalen Hurts had a pass batted at the line then picked off by Terrell Bernard for Buffalo's 20th takeaway of the season. Buffalo QB Josh Allen was able to convert on the ensuing drive with a rushing TD to put the Bills ahead 10 - 7 , with 8.34 to go in the half.
Late in the 2nd quarter, The Eagles were able to block a field goal & took over on downs, but immediately turned the ball back over to Buffalo off a Kenny Gainwell botched handoff. Josh Allen's 1st pass was incomplete, 2nd pass was complete to Murray but negated by a holding penalty. On the ensuing drive, Allen was able to connect with Stefon Diggs at the goal line for a touchdown to put Buffalo up 17 to 7 at the end of the half.
Josh Swift had a breakout run for 36 yards early in the 3rd quarter to spark the Philadelphia offense. That spark carried over to a 15 yard pass to backup TE Jack Stoll (in for the injured Dallas Goedert) which brought the Eagles offense to the 4yard line with a 1st & goal. Jalen Hurts faked a handoff, rolled right then hit AJ Brown in the back of the endzone for a touchdown. Jake Elliot's kick for the extra point is good to make it 17 - 14 Bills midway through the 3rd quarter.
Buffalo battled back with a 9 play , 70 yard scoring drive as Josh Allen rushed for his 2nd Touchdown of the day from 16 yards out to make it 24 - 14 Bills with under 2 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter.
At the start of the 4th , it was time for Jalen to go to work , and work he did on a 7 play , 75 yard scoring drive capped off with a pass to Devonta Smith in the endzone for a touchdown to bring the Eagles within 3 points for a score of 21 - 24 Buffalo.
On the next play , Josh Allen attempted a pass to Diggs that was taken away by Eagles cornerback Sam Bradberry IV for the interception. After 2 plays for a loss , on 3rd down & 15 , Jalen Hurts gets flushed out of the pocket, points down field & uncorks a blast to Olamade Zaccheaus (OZ) over double coverage to pull down a touchdown to put the Eagles ahead 28 - 24 with 11 minutes to go in the 4th quarter.
Buffalo's next drive ends in a Brandon Graham sack on Josh Allen to a thunderous ovation from the Philadelphia crowd. Eagles were unable to convert on the next drive to give Buffalo the ball back. Josh Allen lead the team on a 10 play , 74 yard scoring drive with a TD pass to Gabe Davis to help Buffalo go up 31 to 28 with under 2 minutes to go in the game.
Jason Kelce gets called on 2 separate false start penalties as the Eagles got the ball within the Buffalo 35 yard line. Jalen Hurts pass to AJ Brown was broken up by Poyer & it all comes down to Jake Elliot's 60 yard fg in the rain. It's up and it's gooooooooooood. We're tied at 31 & going to OT.
Buffalo won the toss, but were only able to come away with a field goal on a drive that was kept alive by a roughing the passer call on Eagles LB Nicholas Morrow. Josh Allen has evaded 1 arm tackles all day but Morrow grazes Allen's shoulder & somehow falls to the turf like a ton of bricks as if he wasnt a man who stands 6 foot 4 inches & weighs 240lbs if he weighs an ounce , but I digress. Wrestlemania this year will be at Lincoln Finacial Field in April of 2024 & Josh Allen is looking for a spot on the show with that dive but anywayyyy.
34 / 31 Bills in overtime with the game on the line with the ball in Jalen Hurts hands is a good place to be. Executing a well balanced drive of run plays to set up the pass, Jalen Hurts was able to rush into the endzone from 12 yards out to win the game & once again , win the game with the ball in his hands. That's our Quarterback. Thats Our Franchise. 265 yards / 4 TDs on the day with 27 wins & 2 losses in his last 29 games. Pretty soon , they will call him MVP.
