STEELERS WEEK 5 RECAP: SEEING STARS

- Tyler Yasembousky, Contributor

The Cowboys–Steelers rivalry is a HISTORIC rivalry in the NFL The Cowboys currently lead the all-time series 18–16. The two teams met in the Super Bowl three times, the most of any two teams.  CBS Sports ranked this rivalry No. 2 of the best NFL rivalries of the 1970s. As the Cowboys are in the NFC and the Steelers are in the AFC, they usually only meet at least once every four years and at least once every eight seasons at each team's home stadium. Sometimes more often, if the two teams finish in the same place in their respective divisions in the year, they do not play one another but met two years prior, play in the preseason, or meet in the Super Bowl.

So how would this new chapter be for this incredible rivalry ? Well the game was certainly entertaining, But unfortunately it wouldn’t go Pittsburgh’s way.

First, the game was delayed by a hour and a half, kick off didn’t happen till about 9:45 PM. This was due to crazy weather, according to Stevie nicks it only thunders when it rains, well it was certainly doing both last night.

The first quarter was fairly quiet and had both teams hitting a field goal. Brandon Aubrey started things off with a huge 55-yard strike, that man can hit from anywhere on the field.

Then Linval Joseph registers a 14-yard sack that causes Justin Fields to fumble the ball. Thankfully the Steelers would recover their own fumble. The Cowboys would challenge the call but lose a time out over it.

Unfortunately Pittsburgh wouldn’t be able to do anything and had to punt the ball away.

Dak then hit CeeDee Lamb as he makes an incredible catch. It was so good, even the referee congratulated him. Cowboys and the refs ? A love story as old as time.

Steelers defense came up big though, The Pittsburgh defense was everywhere and the sacks came frequently. Early in the game the pass rush came and caused Dak to cough up the ball.

TJ Watt was able to record his 100 sack of his career ! That’s the best defensive player in the league for ya ! A future hall of famer.

Once again, the Steelers offense couldn’t do much. Osa Odighizuwa makes a huge sack and was vital in keeping the game close.

Jake Ferguson makes a huge play with CeeDee Lamb making multiple blocks upfront. Jalen Tolbert made the most of his chances. Aubrey hits another field goal.

6-3 Dallas

A bad interception from Dak Prescott on a ball intended for CeeDee Lamb falls right in the hands of Donte Jackson for Prescott's second redzone turnover of the night.

Then finally ! Pittsburgh take the lead in the third quarter. First touchdown of the game is a Fields to Connor Heyward connection! Steelers take the lead!

10-6 Pittsburgh

Dak Prescott connects with KaVontae Turpin on a seam route down the middle to convert on a big third down.

34-yard gain has Dallas up to the PIT 21 yard line

Then Aubrey takes to the field and has his field goal attempt blocked by the Steelers ! Pittsburgh special teams coming up big !

Once again the Steelers offense couldn’t do anything to capitalize. The Cowboys would eventually get the ball back on a punt.

Rico Dowdle from Dallas played a solid game. He rushed for 87 yards and made a fantastic play for a touchdown, now scoring a receiving touchdown in consecutive games.

13-10 Dallas

On the next drive, things get tough as Dak throws another interception. This time Joey porter Jr. comes up big !

Deep into the fourth quarter the Steelers retake the lead. The shovel pass to Freiermuth! Steelers getting it done on the ground

20-13 Pittsburgh

The Cowboys make one final drive. Hunter Luepke was instrumental on the drive and has prove to be a valuable piece for their offense.

The game would come down to this, Dallas 4th and goal. Either they get a touchdown and win or they get stopped and lose…

Could Pittsburgh defense who played INCREDIBLE all night, get one final stop…unfortunately no.

In the dying seconds and with the game on the line, Dak throws a dart to Jalen Tolbert for the game-winning touchdown.

The game ends with Pittsburgh trying an all out play with a number of laterals. Jourdan Lewis jumps on a fumble and ends the game. That led to a weak moment from George Pickens who was clearly frustrated from being so ineffective all nigh

Cowboys 20-17

Pittsburgh had its opportunity to win the game but the offense was a dead fish…

The Steelers are now 3-2 and are behind the Wayne’s Keehner’s Ravens for the division lead.

Next week the Steelers will travel to Las Vegas to play Mike Mueller's Raiders.
