TNA'S MARQUEE PPV LIVES UP TO ITS NAME
- Rob Crowther, Editor In Chief
With the recent momentum in TNA Wrestling, the brand's marquee PPV certainly delivered in all aspects. There's something very special about TNA right now, and I think it all starts with this very special roster. From Joe Hendry's popularity to the signing of KC Navarro, the brand is firing on all cylinders. Other major contributing factors include NXT crossover appearances by Jordynne Grace, The Rascalz, among others. And of course the return of The Hardys. This year's installment of Bound For Glory was the highest BFG attended event in eleven years, as announced at the PPV on Saturday.
This card was absolutely stacked. It was almost unfair to have matches such as Steve Maclin vs. Josh Alexander. Two men that could literally fight forever and tear the house down every single time. The Same goes for men such as Speedball Mike Bailey, arguably one of the best professional wrestlers I've ever seen live, taking on someone he knows very well in El Hijo del Vikingo. Two absolutely show stealing matches here, that I wouldn't mind seeing over and over and over again.
Speaking of show stealers, one of the main events saw Masha Slamovich capture The TNA Women's Championship from longtime Champ, Jordynne Grace in a hard hitting bout. Grace will be a tough act to follow but I wouldn't be surprised to see her go onto some bigger opportunities moving forward after leading the charge in the recent WWE/TNA crossovers.
NXT was represented again as Wendy Choo and Rosemary (I am so here for this team) challenged Spitfire for the TNA Women's Tag Team Championships in a losing effort. Choo had the opportunity to make history by being the first active roster WWE Superstar to win a TNA Championship.
"The Complete" Matt Cardona took on PCO in a Monster's Ball match for The TNA Digital Media and International Championships, after a long standing rivalry involving the now sidelined Steph De Lander. PCO retains after a match full of doors, thumbtacks, and more. Bonus points to Cardona for bringing back the Ghostbusters Gear from GCW.
The Team of Heather By Elegance took on NXT's Brinley Reese and Xia Brookside which saw the babyfaces defeated with some foul play at the end of the match. Great to see the ever evolving TNA Women's Division continue to flourish. I honestly can't wait to see what women TNA will sign moving forward.
The second to last match of the evening had us all believing it would be Joe Hendry's night. Unfortunately, it was not thanks to some interference once again from John Bradshaw Layfield and a couple of Clotheslines from Hell. I'm surprised to see the outcome here, as this is one of several times Hendry has failed to capture the proverbial brass ring. Like they say, the Money's in the Chase, and in the words of Journey, "Don't Stop Believin."
The Third Main Event of the evening saw The Hardys and ABC take on The System for The TNA Tag Team Championships in a bigtime Full Metal Mayhem Match in which Jeff Hardy said at the BFG Press Conference would either end or resurrect his career. The Charismatic Enigma did something extremely epic in painting every ladder, chair, and even the canvas for this match, which I thought was really something special. The Hardys busted out all the old tricks and new, including a poetry in motion train with ABC, and high flying, high risk offense to once again become the TNA Tag Team Champions in a full circle moment.
Bound For Glory was exactly what it needed to be, with the big moment for the returning Hardys, a new Women's Champion, and a continuing journey for arguably one of the most popular pro wrestlers on the planet.
