WWE NXT ROADBLOCK: LIVE FROM MSG, NYC
- Rob Crowther, Editor In Chief
Last night's NXT Roadblock eminating from a sold out Madison Square Garden (The Theater) in New York City, was a PLE level event on free TV. Much like the black and gold NXT Takeovers of old, Roadblock was a star studded affair with dream matches aplenty.
TNA World Tag Team Championship Match: Fraxiom VS. The Hardy Boys (C)

This felt like a lot more than a litmus test for the returning Hardy Boys. In fact, most of the merchandise at the arena and throughout the crowd was for The Hardys. Simply put, this was the best match of the night and a dream match at that, against our BCP+ Tag Team of 2024 winners, Fraxiom.

Matt & Jeff are still performing at an incredibly high level. Not only did they hang with the high flying duo of Nathan Frazer and Axiom, but they continue to up their game with new tandem offensive maneuvers including the plot twist, which was actuallyr first executed on TNA's KC Navarro. In other words, Matt & Jeff didn't just "play the hits."
Fraxiom threw everything they had at the TNA Tag Champs with multiple dives and high flying maneuvers. The turning point in this one was when Jeff Hardy dodged a high flying attack allowing for Frazer to inadvertently fly into Axiom. After a Twist of Fate and picture perfect Swanton Bomb combo, The Hardy Boys successfully retained in what I believe to have been the match of the night.

Jordynne Grace VS. Roxanne Perez

Perez continues to prove that she is ahead of her years, and is main roster ready in this one. Grace is a force to be reckoned with, so this clash of styles was really great. TONS of reversals and quick action in this one, further proving why NXT does indeed have the BEST women's roster in pro wrestling. Great back and forth here, but a missed Pop Rocks attempt allowed for Grace to put Perez away with her Grace/Juggernaut Driver, which is still to this day one of the most devastating finishing maneuvers I have ever seen in person.

Moose (TNA X-Division Champion) VS Oba Femi (C) For the NXT Championship

Pre-match Oba is met backstage by the one and only Undertaker. Taker gives him the nod, fist bump, and tells Oba that he doesn't have to explain how important this match is. Essentially, Taker is saying we can't lose the NXT Championship to another company's wrestler.

Oba did just that in a heck of a match where two men beat the heck out of each other with power moves. Moose really impressed throughout, but no matter what he threw at the NXT Champion, Oba would continue to not only kick out, but look more dominant than the X-Division Champion. Oba gets the win here in timely fashion, and off air post-match we see a brief show of respect between the two competitors.

Ethan Page VS. Je'Von Evans NYC Street Fight

Lots of hardware in this one, as Page and Evans used tables, chairs, and tool boxes to absolutely decimate one another. Very innovative use of tables in this one, including a jumping cutter to the outside through a table, and a devastating cutter on a chair to Ego. Despite Page trying to target the jaw and successfully executing his Ego's Edge finisher, Je'Von would continue to kick out and ultimately get the win here, seemingly ending this feud.

After the match the new SHIELD -esque quartet made their way to the ring from all sides of the arena, before beating down both competitors. Je'Von was left lying as the MSG crowd chanted "Temu SHIELD!!" Again we are left with more questions than answers here.

Before the main Eddie Thorpe is interviewed in the crowd but is unable to be heard with a chorus of boos throughout. Trick Williams interrupts the interview and jumps Thorpe from behind to the delight of the NYC crowd. "Whoop That Trick" chants as we head into our main event of the evening.

TITLE VS TITLE: NXT North American Women's Champion Stephanie Vaquer VS. NXT Women's Champion Giulia

Once again the women headline NXT, and rightfully so. Two of the best women's wrestlers on the planet, and best friends Giuila and Vaquer squared off in an epic battle to close out the night. Tons of reversals here with many of Stephanie's primary signature moves including her Finisher the Spiral Tap, which was reversed into a Rings of Saturn type submission. Vaquer continued to remain one step ahead of Giulia, even kicking out of a devastating running knee attack. Ultimately, Stephanie defeated he NXT Women's Champion with THREE SVB's to make history in NYC.

AND NEW..... Stephanie Vaquer is your first ever NXT Women's Double Champion. What a way to end the night. The momentum is with Vaquer and she has the proverbial jet pack strapped to her. I'm excited to see what the rest of her journey in NXT looks like, as I feel she may be on the main roster before the year is over.

Again, an absolutely next level event by NXT, which is seemingly becoming more and more the OFFICIAL third brand in the WWE. Time will tell, but it begs the question, what will NXT possibly have in store for WrestleMania weekend at Stand & Deliver?
